Top 5 Social Media Trends: What's Up on Our Screens this 2019

February 28, 2019

Social media have been advancing with different platforms through the years. Tastes, preferences, thoughts, and ideas of every user gradually changes over time. These results to the rise of various trends every once in a while as we browse through our screens several hours a day.

What’s good about it is that it never stays the same. Social media platforms continuously evolve. From content creation to aesthetically made videos and photos, posts, tweets, stories and more, all of them pushed their way to have the capacity of adapting that will earn the public’s attention more. This leads us to the question - what can we expect with the social media trends this 2019? Here are some of the much awaited trends we should be looking out for this year.

Connection with your audience makes it stronger

Social media is a two-way street. It does not only exist by itself, rather it creates a vibe between two persons or to different individuals all over the world. Connecting with your audience increases the possibility of your popularity, thus, expanding the reach of your content. The public wants to feel the real emotions, the spark that goes through the screens of their mobiles or computers that even if they are not seeing you personally, the understanding is still there.

Since there are different platforms and content creators in the internet, we should focus on how we can gain more attention and stand out from everyone else. This will not only make you unique but will also let your audience remember you. As we all know, word of mouth is a powerful tool. If the public recognizes you for a brand that you promote, they will promote the brand for you. It will reach a huge number of people and will eventually lead to more followers and engagements on your end.

Storytelling is not only for a good night’s sleep

Remember when your parents read you bedtime stories for you to sleep? This 2019, storytelling will definitely make you alive and kicking. Storytelling creates the connection between you and your audience. Telling the public why you’re doing what you’re doing strengthens the bond between you and the user. It is significant that you are letting them know the reasons why you are promoting a certain brand and not only talk about the brand itself. Don’t make the public feel that it is only because it’s the money that lets you do the promotion. Make them feel you’re doing it because you like it and it’s your own decision. This will make them genuinely feel the meaningful reason behind the promotion and will also let them understand you not only as a promoter of a certain brand.

This kind of interaction between you and your audience is essential and letting them have a piece of who you are in the real world might be helpful for you to gain trust from your followers. YouTube content creators today include their daily lives as part of their vlogs and trust me, people are hooked. From their scripted plays, humor and skits, people are getting curious. What’s their lifestyle? What do they do on a regular day? These authentic stories will matter more to people and will give more life to who you are.

Influencers rule

From free products to thousands of money, choosing Influencers for a brand is important. They’re the faces of the products and they give life to what needs to be promoted. Why Influencers? People tend to trust other users than the company itself. Influencers evidently showed how easy it is to let people know what the product is through honest reviews and using these products in their daily lives.

This does not only revolves around the macro influencers who engage with more people everyday. What’s in this 2019 is getting the brands endorsed by micro influencers which is the exact opposite of these power influencers who have thousands of followers and likes. These micro influencers are more likely to create emotional connection with their followers since they have limited or small number of reach which makes their followers trust them more. These kinds of relationships between the influencers and their audiences will increase the probability of the brand to have a huge success rate for the brand to be known by the public.

Videos for content

Vine what? Since Vine died last 2017, this did not stop the influencers to produce videos rather used it to gain fame from other social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and more. Video editing softwares have improved over the years and the public always wants what’s new in their eyes. Back in 2016, more than 80% of internet and mobile audiences watched more live videos than in 2015 according to Go-Globe. Same goes with last 2017, according to Wyzowl, 82% of businesses feel video is an important part of their marketing strategy, 99% of businesses will continue to use video throughout 2017, 82% of businesses will be spending more on video in 2017 and 83% of businesses believe that video gives them a good ROI. Moreover, streaming video accounts for over two-thirds of all internet traffic is expected to jump to 82% by 2020. This statistically shows how video contents are dominating the internet and for surely will in the future.

Audience analysis

To create more content and engage well with your followers, you should know how to adjust your topics or messages to your audience. It is a must that you know who your audiences are and organize them for you to somehow easily think of the best message for them. According to Mickey Bannon, audience analysis involves identifying the audience and adapting a speech to their interests, level of understanding, attitudes, and beliefs.  Moreover, getting to know the audience members’ attitudes about a topic will help a speaker determine the best way to reach their goals.

Internet users are in different ages, perspectives, likes and dislikes, preferences, religion and beliefs. Meaning - it might be risky if you will not think of your audiences. Certain brands have specific target audiences and some are not allowed for other ages. To analyze your audience and to be aware of what to post and to whom you show it to is important to prevent unexpected social media crisis that may affect the brand and the influencer and the whole business.

Buckle up! This is just a reminder. Just like what I have mentioned, it never stays the same. Trends are alive and will evolve through the years. It is good to keep up with these trends but make sure that a change will come soon and you will be ready for that. Our daily lives, the internet, partnerships with every brand, the up to date news and issues will definitely change from time to time and all you have to do is for you to know how to adapt to certain changes so you will not be behind.
